It’s The Time of Year To Demonstrate Your Spooktacular Baking Prowess
One of the best things about being in the baking industry throughout different times of the year is the opportunities it presents for you to demonstrate your skills and individuality. One of the best times of the year that can be used due its glorious colours is that of Halloween. From Ghosts to Bonfires, Blood to Skeletons, the only real limit is your imagination. If you are an Artisan baker one of the key skillsets to growing your business is in grabbing opportunities that present themselves, which in turn encourage new or occasional customers to become regular patrons of your establishment. If your Halloween cakes really stand out from the crowd, or are featured on social media for instance this could translate into new customers and new business. At Nelstrop Family Millers, we work with hundreds of artisan bakeries up and down the country. We have used our connections to come up with some of the most successful cakes or concepts, which, if properly implemented, could send shivers down the spine of your competition!
The Quintessentially British Bonfire Cake
Whilst it is probably fair to say that the United States is the Halloween Capital of the world it's safe to argue that Bonfire Night is a uniquely British affair. Everyone knows the story of the bonfire plot with Guy Fawkes front and centre. Ultimately doomed to failure, bonfires are mesmerising to watch and feature stunning colours which in turn can be easily translated into stunning cupcakes, which is where this particular recipe comes into play.
The beauty of these cupcakes (or cakes if you want to go for a massive bonfire!) is that they are quick and easy to make but really stand out in your window or shop display. Using the finest ingredients from Nelstrops, all you need to do is bake yourself some chocolate cupcakes or cakes. You could be a little more adventurous by adding some orange flavouring, but that is entirely a matter of choice. The next part of the design involves some buttercream frosting, in the colours of a burning bonfire, primarily bright orange, red and yellow. The final twist to the design is to add chocolate matchsticks to your cupcake, equidistantly spaced, to further enhance the image of the bonfire.
Chocolate Cupcake Meringue Ghosts
Of course, it wouldn’t be right to be discussing Halloween treats without at least some mention of Ghosts. However, it is important to remember that you want to appeal to as wide a range of potential customers as possible and whilst Halloween itself may be all about horror movies and blood-splattered items, kids are often your best customers and indeed advertisers. That is why these stunningly cute ghost cupcakes really stand out. And once again these brilliant treats are quick and easy to make.
Essentially all you need are the same chocolate cupcakes that we discussed above and some swirly meringues. Simply make your cupcakes and then gently set a chewy delicious meringue on the top of your cupcake, before decorating the meringue with a couple of eyes to complete your ‘Ghost’. In our experience, these Ghost Cakes will quickly become a talking point in the school playground, which hopefully will result in kids and parents alike beating a path to your shop.
Time For Something A Little Less Sweet
Although it is hard to believe not everyone has a sweet tooth, we decided that it made sense to add a scary but ever so tasty savoury snack - Severed Fingers Sausage Rolls!! Again if done properly, this is the perfect opportunity to bring the delicious taste of your special tasty sausage rolls to the masses, and what's more, it is surprisingly easy to achieve. All you need to do is dip one end of your delicious sausage roll in tomato ketchup, whilst cutting an olive into the shape of a pointed fingernail. Place the olive at the opposite end of the sausage roll to that of the tomato ketchup and you have a scary but delicious savoury tweet. Even if people copy your idea and create them at home, the chances of them mentioning or discussing your severed finger sausage rolls in the local area or on social media could drive significant business in your direction.
Ghost Cake Pops
Our final suggestion is these stunning little Ghost Cake Pops. The beauty of these cake pops is that with a little imagination, you can have three or maybe four different options to sell. Ghosts, mummies or scary monsters are all relatively easy to make helping you to appeal to a much wider audience.
The baking process is also quick and simple. All you need to do is make one of your most popular cakes, using the best ingredients from Nelstrop and then break the cake up into little balls or triangles or indeed whatever shape suits your creative process. Once this step is complete, place the shapes in a freezer for an hour. Finally, remove the shapes from the freezer, insert lollipop storks at the base and then decorate them appropriately. An added advantage of this concept is that parents like the fact the food is on a stick so it is much easier for little hands to hold whilst eating.
